5 ethical rules your influencer marketing campaign cannot do without

How to build lasting relationships with thought leaders in your industry using ethical standards
Maintaining business relationships with influencers in your niche is a great way to deliver your message to your target audience and convert prospects into loyal customers. But no business relationship will last long without an ethical foundation. How do you build relationships with thought leaders in your niche ethically?
1. Be transparent.
Make your business intentions clear from the very beginning. Influencers are very busy people who work hard at maintaining their relationships with their communities. They don’t have time to read your small print. Be honest and say upfront what it is that you want.
- Be patient.
Many individuals and businesses approach thought leaders on a daily basis. Obviously, they cannot work with everyone who offers them a deal. Be patient with your strategy. It often takes time to catch the attention of a thought leader and gain his or her trust.
- Do not become angry or negative.
If your initial attempts to engage a thought leader don’t work, you need to be able to step back. Don’t go behind the influencer’s back, trashing him or her with negative comments. Rethink your strategy or find a different person for your influencer marketing strategy.
- Respect privacy.
Thought leaders deserve privacy in their personal lives and with their families. Do not try to contact an influencer through his or her private environment, such as family members or friends.
- Do not spam.
Sending too many messages to get an influencer’s attention will not work. Thought leaders are looking for meaningful connections. Be useful and provide helpful input in your communication with influencers. Do not spam them with your messages.
Influencer marketing is a highly effective strategy to get your brand in front of a large audience, but only if you succeed in building mutually beneficial relationships with influencers in your niche based on trust, respect and honesty.
