What are the Stevie Awards?
The Stevie Awards are a set of international business awards that recognize outstanding performances in the workplace. They were created in 2002 and have since grown to become one of the most prestigious award programs in the business world. The awards cover a wide range of categories, including management, marketing, public relations, customer service, human resources, and more. Winners are determined by a panel of judges consisting of industry experts and business leaders.
The Stevie Awards are considered a credible award program and are usually seen as positive and reputable. They have a rigorous judging process and attract around 12,000 entries annually. However, concern about the validity of the awards relates to the potential for the manipulation of judging. In 2020, a group of investigative reporters managed to win several awards with fake entries. The Stevie Awards has since taken steps to address these concerns and maintain the integrity of the program.
In a blog post, the Stevie Awards announced that they had rescinded the fake awards and stated, “We will take the extra step going forward to doublecheck the legitimacy of organizations that submit nominations before we accept them.”
Should you promote the Stevie Award when you win?
If your company or an employee wins a Stevie Award, you should promote it. Winning an award can enhance your brand’s reputation, credibility, and visibility.
However, it's important to be aware of the potential perception issues surrounding the Stevie Awards. Some may view them as easier to win or less reputable than other business awards. Overpromoting a Stevie win, or any award win, could potentially backfire if your audience is skeptical of the award's significance or it is promoted too often.
Why does it matter?
In PR, perception is everything. While winning any kind of award is usually seen as a positive, it's important to consider how your audience will view the specific award. This applies to any awards and not just the Stevie. Carefully consider and research any awards before applying or hire a PR professional to help you vet awards and apply.
